BOTOX FAQ

Browse our FAQ to learn everything you need to know before your Botox treatment.

Will my face still be expressive after BOTOX?
If you work with a qualified injector, you should maintain natural movement in your face.
At what age should I start BOTOX treatments?
There is no set age. Some people choose to start in their 40s or later, while others start in their late 20s to preserve their youthful skin. If you notice lines in your skin even when your face is relaxed, it may be a good time to start.
Can I get BOTOX injections at a day spa?
While some day spas offer BOTOX treatments, it’s best to have your injections done at a medical spa staffed by credentialed and qualified practitioners. This lowers your risk of complications caused by improperly performed injections and inferior products.

What Does BOTOX Do?

Squinting, frowning, and other facial expressions involve muscle contractions that can lead to the formation of wrinkles in the skin. BOTOX, along with similar products Dysport® and XEOMIN®, prevents these contractions from occurring, creating a smooth, youthful appearance instead.

BOTOX can minimize the appearance of:

  • Horizontal frown lines across the forehead
  • Crow’s feet along the outer corners of the eyes
  • Vertical lines between the eyebrows

Different types of lines and folds can be improved by injecting a dermal filler such as JUVÉDERM® or Restylane®, which can fill in lines by adding volume underneath the skin.

How Does BOTOX Work?

BOTOX is a neuromodulator made from botulinum toxin A. When expertly injected into specific muscles, it relaxes them and prevents them from contracting. An experienced and skilled injector can stop the movement of only the targeted muscles, meaning you won’t have a frozen or unnatural look and will still be able to express yourself naturally.

What Is BOTOX Treatment Like?

BOTOX is commonly referred to as a “lunch break procedure” because it can be done in a quick appointment, after which you can return to work or other daily activities right away. After consulting with you about your goals and concerns, one of The SPA’s qualified injectors will use a very fine needle to administer a short series of injections. Some patients say these feel like insect bites.

Does BOTOX Cause Side Effects?

You may experience some redness, swelling, tenderness, and, rarely, bruising around the injection site for a day or 2. It’s important not to excessively elevate your blood pressure or push on the treated area during this time.

How Long Do BOTOX Results Last?

Your results will start developing in a few days, with full results visible in about 1 to 2 weeks You’ll typically see reduced lines and wrinkles lasting about 3 to 4 months, though it varies for each person.

How Much Does BOTOX Cost?

The cost of BOTOX depends on the number of units injected. When you visit us in Tallahassee for a consultation, our experienced injectors will discuss how many units you’ll need to achieve your desired result. We are happy to offer third-party financing options to make your BOTOX treatment even more affordable.
