Oculoplastic Surgery Before & After Case 651

She is a 50-year-old woman.  She presented for upper eyelid reconstructive surgery.  Her eyelids progressively drooped, not only because of excess eyelid skin, but, because the muscle that lifts the eyelid became stretched. 

She underwent surgery to remove the excess upper eyelid skin and to shorten the muscle that raises the eyelid.  While not technically cosmetic surgery, there is a cosmetic benefit. 

It is an outpatient surgery that is usually takes approximately 1 hour. 

There is some associated bruising and swelling.

Patients usually have stitches in place for 1 week.
