Breast Reconstruction

Reconstruction of a breast that has been removed due to cancer or other disease is one of the most rewarding surgical procedures available today. The experienced surgeons at Southeastern Plastic Surgery, P.A. are available to meet and discuss breast reconstruction options available to you. New medical techniques and devices have made it possible for your surgeon to create a breast that can come close in form and appearance to matching your natural breast. Frequently, reconstruction is possible immediately following breast removal (mastectomy), so you wake up with a breast mound already in place.

Some options that you may want to consider are: Skin Expansion –This common technique combines skin expansion and subsequent insertion of an implant following mastectomy. Flap Reconstruction—This alternative approach to implant reconstruction involves creation of a skin flap using tissue taken from other parts of the body, such as the back or abdomen. Usually, the initial reconstructive operation is the most complex. Follow-up surgery may be required to replace a tissue expander with an implant or to reconstruct the nipple and the areola.

Keep in mind that each patient is unique and your results may vary.

You are likely to feel tired and sore for a week or two after reconstruction. Depending on the extent of your surgery, you’ll probably be released from the hospital in two to five days. Most stitches are removed in a week to 10 days.

It may take you up to four weeks to recover from a combined mastectomy and reconstruction or from a flap reconstruction alone. If implants are used without flaps and reconstruction is done apart from the mastectomy, your recovery time may be less.

“I would highly recommend you to anyone looking for an excellent plastic surgeon!”

Dr. Rosenberg,

Thank you for providing me with excellent care, an amazing outcome with the breast reconstructive surgery and overall positive experience. You and your staff are very caring, supportive and professional. I would highly recommend you to anyone looking for an excellent plastic surgeon!

“Dr. Rosenberg and his staff are outstanding!”

Dr. Rosenberg and his staff are outstanding! Having breast reconstruction was not my choice, but after having stage 1 breast cancer and a mastectomy this year, I knew he was my doctor of choice to get me back to normal. All three docs have excellent bedside manner and I wouldn’t go anywhere else for treatment.
