Overdeveloped breasts in men is more common than you might think. At our Tallahassee, Florida, plastic surgery practice, our surgeons perform male breast reduction surgery on men of all ages. The condition, known as gynecomastia, most often presents in adolescent men and in many cases is outgrown. Gynecomastia is a fairly common condition that affects an estimated 40-60% of men and causes enlarged breasts glands. While there are no health risks associated with the condition, for many men, it can make them feel self-conscious and reduce their self-esteem. For many men, the condition can be permanent unless they opt for a male breast reduction procedure.
Who Is a Candidate for Male Breast Reduction?
For men with gynecomastia, the breast glands can grow to an unusually large size, resulting in embarrassingly large breasts. Gynecomastia can occur in one or both breasts. A large number of gynecomastia cases emerge in boys going through puberty; a significant percentage will eventually outgrow it. Some, however, will not be able to get rid of their enlarged breasts, no matter how physically active they are.
Meet Our Physicians
Our skilled physicans understand the profound difference even a small change on the outside can make on the inside. They are dedicated to providing high-quality care in a supportive, compassionate setting.
What Is Male Breast Reduction Like?
Male breast reduction involves the surgical removal of excess fat, glandular tissue and occasionally skin. For men with unusually large areolas (the dark skin surrounding the nipple) or a significant excess of skin, these problems are also corrected during surgery.
