Skin Cancer Treatment Tallahassee

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. More than 1,000,000 new cases are reported each year and the incidence is rising faster than any other type of cancer. While skin cancers can be found on any part of the body, about 80 percent appear on the face, head, or neck.

Most skin cancers are removed surgically. If the cancer is small, the procedure can be done quickly and easily using local anesthesia. If the cancer is large, however, or if it has spread to the lymph glands or elsewhere in the body, major surgery may be required. Other possible treatments for skin cancer include topical chemotherapy (anti-cancer drugs applied to the skin) and Mohs surgery, a special surgical procedure.

Mohs surgery is performed by board-certified dermatologists to remove certain skin cancer types. Following the procedure at the dermatology office, a surgical defect/ wound, usually requiring repair remains.

Our board-certified plastic surgeons: Drs. Kirbo, Rosenberg and DeRosier, have extensive experience in the reconstruction of Mohs surgical defects: performing them on a daily basis. They work to repair the wounds/defects resulting from the Mohs procedure in a way that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The majority of these cases can be closed in an office setting using local anesthetic. Occasionally, deeper sedation is required in an operating room setting.
