Before, During, & After BOTOX® Cosmetic: How to Get Your Best Results

BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments among our Tallahassee patients—and for good reason. It can smooth away wrinkles and rejuvenate the face for a more youthful appearance.

Due to the low price and quick results, many patients try BOTOX as their very first cosmetic treatment. But they may be unsure of what to expect from a typical BOTOX session. In this blog post, we will share a few helpful pointers for men and women who want to get the best possible results from their injectable treatments.

Before

Before heading into your BOTOX appointment, be sure to research your provider. Check for strong credentials, experience, reviews, and before-and-after photos.

You should also avoid blood-thinning medications or supplements. These can increase your likelihood of bruising.

When scheduling your first BOTOX appointment, give yourself plenty of time before any important events. These products take a few days to a couple of weeks to take effect, so it’s wise to schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks before a big day.

During

Never be afraid to ask questions or voice your concerns. If you have any hesitation or are confused about anything during your appointment, speak up and ask your provider. They are there to help. You can also ask if your provider has recommendations for other helpful treatments, such as dermal fillers. BOTOX is often combined with these other injectable treatments to create more comprehensive results.

On the day of your appointment, you should arrive without makeup. If you do wear makeup, expect your provider to remove it so your injection sites can be sterilized. Most patients can plan to be at the office for around 30 minutes. The injections themselves can take as little as 15 minutes, meaning you can easily schedule your appointment for your lunch break.

After

Expect some swelling and redness after treatment. The most common side effects people experience are redness, swelling, and mild bruising around the injection sites. These issues typically resolve within a few days.

Avoid heat, exercising, or putting pressure on the area for 24 hours. This will prevent the product from being displaced and better ensure an even, optimal result. Also, take note of your results for the next time you head into treatment. Remember what you like and what could be improved so that you can inform your provider during your touch-up procedure in around 3 to 4 months.
