Southeastern Plastic Surgery Announces High-Resolution Ultrasound Technology

To Enhance Comfort, Technical Excellence and Safety

Southeastern Plastic Surgery brings to the region the use of high-resolution ultrasound (HRUS) technology to enhance the comfort, technical excellence and safety of surgical patients.

“Southeastern Plastic Surgery has incorporated high-resolution ultrasound into our routine clinical practice and the benefits include improved procedural outcomes, less post-operative pain, enhance patient screening” according to Laurence Rosenberg, MD.

The benefits of incorporating HRUS:

COMFORT | Using HRUS to identify the nerves responsible for pain, our surgeons give nerve blocks that provide long lasting post-surgical pain relief.

TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE | HRUS is used for accurate fat transfer placement.  Ultrasound enables our surgeons to see the muscle beneath when placing the fat. Our surgeon can visually see that NO fat is placed into the muscle (there have been several deaths linked to injection of fat into the muscle during Brazilian Butt Lift procedures that have led to stricter regulations on fat transfer procedures in Florida recently).

SAFETY | HRUS is used to examine and for long-term monitoring for silicone breast implants. There is a lot of anxiety surrounding textured breast implants and BIA-ALCL right now. Southeastern Plastic Surgery offers ultrasound screenings to detect ruptures of silicone gel breast implants. Silicone gel implant rupture can occur without any symptoms; therefore, the FDA recommends regular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans or high-resolution ultrasound screenings. Studies have documented excellent accuracy for detecting silicone implant rupture with high-resolution ultrasound. Using a handheld HRUS machine Southeastern Plastic Surgery physicians can make sure there is no fluid surrounding your implant. Traditionally MRI scanning has been used for imaging implants which can be extremely expensive and is often not covered by medical insurance.

Any person who has a textured breast implants and would like to have them examined to make sure they are in good condition and have not developed any warning signs for BIA-ALCL, can be seen and evaluated at Southeastern Plastic Surgery.  Using a handheld ultrasound machine, our board-certified plastic surgeons can make sure there is no fluid surrounding your implant.  This can help avoid extremely costly MRI studies.

“Patient safety is the highest priority for our practice,” explains Dr. Ben Kirbo. “We do so through our commitment to offer both the latest technology and techniques to the patients in the region and beyond.”
