4 Times When Your Injector Might Suggest Getting BOTOX® Before Dermal Fillers

Woman looking at her reflection and considering BOTOX or dermal fillers in tallahassee florida

Why would an injector you’re seeing for dermal fillers recommend BOTOX Cosmetic instead? For our Tallahassee injectors, creating exceptional results goes hand-in-hand with educating you about all your options. We want you to look and feel amazing, and sometimes that means introducing you to approaches you may not have been aware of before.

When you consult with your injector about fillers, it’s possible they might advise you to start with BOTOX or another neuromodulator such as Dysport®, XEOMIN®, or Jeuveau®. Here are a few reasons that might happen—and why these treatments are worth a try.

When Your Main Concerns Are Dynamic Wrinkles

Not all facial wrinkles are the same. Different lines form for different reasons, and they naturally require different treatments. Most wrinkles fall into 1 of 2 categories:

  • Static: These are often caused by volume loss or a breakdown of collagen in the skin. Examples include nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and some vertical lip lines.
  • Dynamic: These form as a result of repeated movements over time. They include crow’s feet, vertical “11s” between the eyebrows, and horizontal forehead lines.

While fillers are some of the most effective treatments for static wrinkles, nothing beats BOTOX when it comes to relaxing specific muscles and smoothing out the resulting lines.

When You’re New to Injectables and Looking for a Shorter-Term Commitment

BOTOX is an excellent introductory treatment for first-timers who aren’t sure what to expect. That’s in part because the treatments are so quick and the needles are tiny and easy to tolerate.

While fillers are also minimally invasive, they sometimes require numbing agents to keep patients comfortable. They also last longer than BOTOX—6 to 24 months as opposed to BOTOX’s 3 to 4 months.

When You Don’t Have Much Time To Spare for Bruising and Swelling

While fillers can involve a week or so of noticeable swelling, BOTOX involves little to no recovery time. In that regard, it’s ideal if you need to be camera- or event-ready within the next day or two.

However, keep in mind that BOTOX takes anywhere from 5 to 10 days to take effect. So while you likely won’t have any noticeable bruising the next day, you also won’t have completely wrinkle-free skin just yet. (Dysport works a bit faster—typically in just 2 days, as Healthline reports.)

When You’re Looking To Slim Your Jawline

Many people turn to jawline fillers when they’re in pursuit of a sharper jawline and slimmer face shape. While fillers can certainly enhance and define the jawline, BOTOX may be a better approach to start with. Your expert injector can determine if this is a plausible option for you.

When injected into the masseter muscle (the one responsible for chewing), BOTOX relaxes the overworked area and may create more of a V-line face shape. As a bonus, it also help relieve symptoms of TMJ, including jaw pain and headaches. We often use BOTOX to treat patients for clenched jaws, TMJ, and masseter bulging.
